Non-Negotiables
- Weather plays a very big role in the running of this trek. Flights to Lukla are a fair-weather friend. A cloud covering a mountain ridge can shut down the entire airport! Hence we suggest keeping a day or two in Kathmandu as a buffer for your return international flight. If in extreme case, you miss your international flight from Kathmandu or internal flights, we will render all assistance, but cannot be held liable for any extra cost incurred.
- Kindly ensure that you arrive at Kathmandu before afternoon on Day 1 so you can rest well before next day departure to Lukla.
- The Lukla flights can either be from Kathmandu or Ramechhap. If the airport is changed to Ramechhap, which is around 130km from Kathmandu, we will have to leave very early in the morning. The taxi far to Ramechhap will shared among the participants.
- Carrying baggage limit for Kathmandu/Ramechaap-Lukla flight sector is 10kg and the hand baggage limit is 5kg.
- It is mandatory to get yourself a travel, risk and accident insurance.
- Please note that there is a culture of tipping the guide and porters in Nepal and they expect it after the end of the trek.
- At Tea houses, there will be mainly common Toilets on sharing basis and attach bathroom in some places, blankets are provided and running water is available. Majority of tea houses have cold showers, some provide hot water at an additional cost. Some tea houses have electricity where you can charge your appliances (mobile phones & cameras) at an additional cost.
- Please note that while we endeavor to assist all our clients in achieving their goals, there may be times your leader makes the decision to either delay or stop your ascent based on your medical conditions and AMS symptoms.

Physical Preparation
Aerobic Base Building
Start with 4–5 cardio sessions per week: running, cycling, swimming, or hiking. The Gokyo trek is 18 days of consecutive effort — your aerobic engine is the most important variable. Build to 75 minutes of Zone 2 (conversational) effort without stopping. Do not skip this phase.

Loaded Hiking & Elevation
Weekly long hikes with a 10–12 kg pack on hilly terrain. Start at 12 km and build to 28 km by week 8. The Gokyo valley involves continuous elevation gain across several days — prioritise uphill training. Aim for 1,000m+ of ascent per long hike.
Multi-Day Endurance & Leg Strength
Add back-to-back long hikes (Day 1: 6 hours, Day 2: 5 hours) to train for consecutive high-effort days — the stretch from Gokyo Ri to Chola Pass to EBC is the most demanding in the portfolio. Strength: squats, lunges, step-ups, and single-leg deadlifts twice weekly. Practice early 4 am starts to simulate summit days.
Chola Pass Specific & Gear Test
If possible, practise a steep descent on loose or icy terrain with crampons/microspikes — the Chola Pass glaciated descent is technical. Complete one full-day hike (7+ hours) in your exact trek boots. Reduce overall volume by 30%. Visit your doctor for a pre-trek medical check, Diamox prescription, and altitude medication plan.
